Than Luu has always loved music, especially the sounds of the guitar. Born and raised in Vietnam, he studied guitar and mandolin at the age of 17 and played until he escaped during the Vietnam War at the age of 19. He subsequently found refuge in the United States where he studied electrical engineering at University of Portland and worked long and successful career as an electronics engineer with the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command. After he retired in 2016, he began taking classical guitar classes at Miramar College, Mesa College, and Grossmont College in San Diego. Upon completion of these classes, he joined the Mesa College Classical Guitar Ensemble with Professor Jiri Svoboda and he fell in love with the ensemble concept right away. He has continued his musical pursuits with the San Diego Guitar Ensemble. He is thoroughly enjoying his experience and loves being a part of the classical guitar ensemble.
